Attendees: Tony Villalobos, Scott Melendrez, Larry Enriquez, Cheryl Vargo, Lacy Cascadden, Angel Baltazar, Yvette Guevreyan, Tim Walborn 

 

Purpose of Today’s Meeting: Updates

Key Discussion Items:

  1. Lacy gave an update on WellSource. Expected to launch in July. Tim, Lacy, Larry, Dora and Ken will take an online course and hopefully begin running tests in July.

 

  1. Lacy talked about the food testing at the Convention Center. Hoping to launch the next menu at PageOne within a few weeks. The ultimate goal would to be able to have health locations throughout the entire city, marked by a Healthy Ontario logo.

 

  1. Yvette is having some trouble finding clients in the Ontario area for her Weight loss challenge.

 

    1. She is exploring evening classes for Ontario
    2. Scott mentioned maybe contracting with the city.

 

  1. Scott announced that Sue Goodwin is leaving Ontario.

 

  1. New Business: It was announced that the Community report would be done soon. Healthy Ontario and Healthy Communities now has a partnership with REI and C&D Zodiac. Claremont Graduate and USC are interested in the healthy communities movement.

 

Action Items:

1.      Work on getting information out about Weight loss challenge

2.      WellSource

Purpose of Today’s Meeting: Updates

Key Discussion Items:

  1. Made change to meeting notes: Dorothy Quesada is 10,000sq. feet not 8,500sq. feet.

 

  1. Lacy gave an update on the Advisory Meeting that was held April 9th, 2008. Group was updated on some of the projects the other teams are doing including a mentoring campaign and safe routes to school.

 

  1. WellSource will be implemented at the YMCA. Everything is ready to go and training will begin as soon as the information arrives. Once everything is secured at the YMCA the program can be taken elsewhere in the city.

 

  1. Yvette is going to start a wellness weight loss class at the Healthy Ontario office May 7th 2008 at 12:30- 1:30. $49

 

  1. Angel talked about the kids Fitness Challenge – April 19th, 2008 at the Ontario Speedway: www.kidsfitnesschallenge.com

 

  1. Angle gave an update on Gratitude study and its affects on obesity – Latino Health Collaborative.

 

  1. Angel talked about R and D Zodiac and their interest in being involved with Healthy Communities and Healthy Ontario. They are holding a Family Fitness day and a Health Fair. 

 

 

Action Items:

  1. Implementation of Health Risk Assessment at the YMCA.
  2. Involvement with C and D
  3. Promote the Weight loss classes.

Purpose of Today’s Meeting: Updates on WellSource and invite leadership for the continued movement of Prevention and Wellness team.

Key Discussion Items:

  1. Welcome and introductions. Review of meeting notes.

 

 

  1. Scott gave an update on the Dorothy Quesada Community Center.
    1. 10,000 sq foot community center hosting fitness, aquatic and arts
    2. Located at 1010 South Bonview
    3. To be finished in August or September.
    4. Call Scott Melendrez for more information or to offer programming suggestions.

Meeting Notes

Attendees: Sue Goodwin, Tony Villalobos, Scott Melendrez, Larry Enriquez, Richard Arvizu, Dora Barilla, Cathy Rebman, Cheryl Vargo, Lacy Cascadden

Purpose of Today’s Meeting: To finalize objectives and establish indicators.

Key Discussion Items:

  1. Welcome and introductions. Review of meeting notes. Richard Arvizu discussed the first IE Half Marathon, its successes and opportunities.

 

  1. The group would like to move forward with the Health Risk Assessment.
    a. Evan with WellSource called to answer questions about the program.
    b. The goal is to pilot 1000 participants through Ontario in the next year.
     i. The group would like to implement this project at the YMCA

 

  1. The group distinguished obesity awareness and neighborhood walking clubs as important action items for wellness.

 

  1. Under nutrition, the group decided a school survey and nutrition policy as well as highlighting healthy options as the important action items.

 

Action Items:

  1. Implementation of Health Risk Assessment at the YMCA.
  2. Work towards executing nutrition and wellness actions.
