Purpose of Today’s Meeting:

Discuss the nuts and bolts for the “Who Are You Growing” mentoring campaign.

Key Discussion Items:

  1. Linda Miranda is doing a survey of the West End to find literacy and mentoring programs that already exist. Hope to use and expand on her study and work closely with Reach Out West End to establish a broad network or mentors and those who need mentoring. Would also like to try and work with 2-1-1 and Reach Out to create a system once campaign is in place to make sure people have a place to call and get information or be connected to a mentoring program

  1. One big focus needs to be on establishing a comprehensive list of mentors. It will be easy to find those who want mentoring but we really need to push to find mentors in the community and with businesses

  1. Marketing campaign will be comprehensive and include transit, print and cable spots highlighting “who are you growing?”- Building a Stronger Community Through Connections. Linda and Chris are going to create a mock up to take to businesses and a possible notebook including facts sheets and mock-ups. The group is going to look for ways to minimize costs. Discussion of distribution through water bills and in Ontario Living, using 2-1-1, Reach Out and even Jobing.com, and finding students to help with work.

  1. The Group is looking to drive people to action and help to show them how mentoring helps not only the community but also improve public relations. Possible competition among business etc for a billboard spot.
